St. Vladimir Church – Roof Recoat & Restoration (Parma, OH)

Greg PalyaProject Profiles

Introduction

St. Vladimir Church, a longstanding parish serving the Parma, Ohio community since 1957, required a durable roof maintenance solution in 2025. West Roofing Systems returned to the site — having installed the original spray foam roof in 1993 and a first recoat in 2003 — to perform a roof recoat system that would extend the service life of the existing roof while addressing internal drainage challenges.

A roof recoat was performed at St. Vladimir Church in Parma, Ohio in 2025.

Project Overview

  • Project Year: 2025
  • Location: Parma, Ohio
  • Roof Size: Approximately 10,000 sq ft
  • System Installed: Acrylic recoat over existing coating
  • Manufacturer: Sherwin-Williams
  • Warranty: 10-Year Full System, Non-Prorated, No-Dollar-Limit, Renewable contractor warranty

Project Challenges

  • The roof had been recoated in 2003 and required a high-performance recoating system to protect the substrate.
  • The building’s internal gutter system was contributing to ponding and water retention, requiring improved slope and coating work.
  • Since the roof system had work performed in prior decades, the recoating solution had to be compatible with existing materials to avoid a full tear-off.

Our Solution

West Roofing Systems selected a high-solids acrylic roof recoat system by Sherwin-Williams to provide renewed protection over the decades-old coating. The process included:

  • Adjusting the slope of the internal gutter system to enhance water drainage and reduce ponding.
  • Preparing and cleaning the existing roof surface to ensure product adhesion.
  • Applying an acrylic base coat and intermediate coat to refresh the roof field.
  • Installing a tinted topcoat to provide a glossy, long-lasting finish.
  • Using a total dry mil thickness of approximately 20 mils for optimal durability and weather resistance.

Warranty & Protection

The completed system was backed by a 10-yearnon-prorated, no-dollar-limit, renewable full-system warranty, giving St. Vladimir Church long-term confidence in the roof’s performance.

Results & Benefits

  • Extended Roof Life: The acrylic recoat refreshes the waterproofing and extends the roof’s service life.
  • Improved Drainage: Adjusting the internal gutter slope significantly reduced ponding water.
  • Cost-Effective Solution: A full tear-off wasn’t required, saving the parish substantial cost and disruption.
  • Warranty Protection: The 10-year full-system warranty provides peace of mind and can be renewed as needed.
