Transite panels on six buildings with steep-slope roofs at the Jabala, Iraq, military base were badly aged and cracked, allowing birds, bats, insects and other pests to live between the drop ceilings and the bottom side of the exterior roofs. Maintaining comfortable temperatures inside the buildings was impossible because of heat penetration, and water and moisture were penetrating the structures during occasional periods of rain.
A crew of six West Roofing employees from the United States and 16 local Iraqi nationals applied 150,000 square feet of SPF on six buildings. West Roofing applied a minimum of 1.25” of SPF to the roof panels and then applied two coats of solvent-free white silicone topcoat. Ten private security personnel helped ensure safety for the application crew.
The SPF roof conformed to the profile of the transite roof panels, resulting in seamless and watertight roofs on each building. The new roofs eliminated pests, reduced dust entering the buildings, eliminated moisture and leakage problems, and provided insulation to improve air conditioning energy efficiency and performance for comfortable living and working quarters.
